Ultra Fine Cosmetic Grade Vitamin C Powder | DISSOLVES INSTANTLY IN WATER | Make fresh & effective Vitamin C serum | Vitamin C for Face, Body Skin Care
I think it’s great that people use this to create their own serums. But, I would like to point out that the ascorbic acid is most stable in it’s powdered form. The moment it is exposed to water or light, it begins to oxidize. Homemade serums also don’t last long. I don’t have a mini serum/makeup fridge and to be honest, I don’t want to walk out to my kitchen fridge every time I do my morning skincare routine. So I actually put a small amount of this vitamin C powder in my palm, mix with one of the serums I already use or drops of filtered water, and apply directly to my face! It works great and dissolves instantly. I don’t know if this would work well for those with sensitive skin (try it on the inside of your elbow to test first), but it works great for me and I know I’m getting the most potent form and the most benefit each time I use it!
Vitamin Basics & Tips
Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is highly unstable when exposed to light, water, or air, leading to oxidation and reduced efficacy. Commercial serums often use stabilized derivatives or airtight packaging, but powdered forms retain potency longer when stored dry. For DIY applications, mixing small batches immediately before use minimizes degradation. The ideal pH for vitamin C absorption in skincare is below 3.5, which can irritate sensitive skin—patch testing is crucial. Natural sources like citrus or bell peppers provide dietary vitamin C, which supports collagen synthesis and immunity, but topical application targets antioxidant protection and brightening benefits directly.
To enhance stability, store vitamin C products in cool, dark environments. Combining it with vitamin E or ferulic acid in serums can boost antioxidant effects. Note that oxidized vitamin C (turning yellow or brown) loses effectiveness and may cause irritation. For sensitive users, gentler derivatives like sodium ascorbyl phosphate offer similar benefits with less irritation. Always layer vitamin C products under sunscreen to prevent UV-induced oxidation during daytime use.
