Vitamin World Retinol Cream, 2 oz, A 100,000 IU per oz
The original Vitamin World Retinol A cream was the best. It went on smooth and made all those tiny bumps around my nose vanish. It had a light baby powder like scent that would have been perfect except that it didn't quite cover up an unpleasant chemical odor. This version of the cream does not have the chemical odor, though the light scent isn't the same baby powder scent. At least it isn't a nasty floral smell and the light scent not a problem for my allergies.
Unfortunately, this version is not as creamy as the original: it has a tiny bit of stickiness, but it does hydrate the skin about as well. It gets the bumps out and is in the right price range. So far, I have not found anything better for the price.
Vitamin Basics & Tips
Vitamin A, often formulated as retinol in skincare, plays a vital role in skin cell regeneration and collagen production. The reviewed cream leverages retinol’s ability to unclog pores and smooth texture by accelerating cellular turnover, explaining its effectiveness against "tiny bumps" around the nose area – likely sebaceous filaments or mild acne.
Retinol’s potency makes it a double-edged sword: while it combats wrinkles and uneven texture, improper use can cause irritation. This product’s hydrating formula likely counteracts retinol’s typical drying effects, making it suitable for sensitive skin. The mention of "chemical odor" in earlier versions hints at oxidation issues common in retinol products, which degrade when exposed to air and light – a problem addressed in the reformulation.
For daily life, vitamin A extends beyond skincare. Dietary sources like sweet potatoes and spinach support vision and immune function. Topical retinol works best when paired with sunscreen (vitamin A increases sun sensitivity) and introduced gradually to prevent peeling. The price emphasis highlights retinol’s accessibility – unlike prescription retinoids, over-the-counter versions offer gentler concentrations for routine use.
