Vitamin C requires 2 capsules for 1000mg dose, making per-capsule pricing misleading despite easier swallowing.
Smaller capsules ease swallowing but demand double doses for efficacy, highlighting misleading per-capsule pricing versus Amazon Basics’ single-capsule 1000mg option.
This review is from Amazon.com for product:
Carlyle Vitamin C 1000mg with Bioflavonoids | 250 Caplets | with Rose HIPS | Vegetarian, Non-GMO, Gluten Free Supplement
I'm not going to rate this lower (I only took off 1 star) as I assume that these will provide the necessary Vitamin C dose per 2 caplets. But, that's the thing...the pricing breakdown shows a "per capsule" cost - and it looks favorable...until they show up and you read the label and realize it takes 2 capsules to meet the 1000mg dose.
So, these are 250 - 500mg capsules. The capsules are smaller (it only makes sense), so they are easier to swallow than a full 1000mg capsule. However, I should have just reordered the previous Amazon Basics 1000mg single-capsule version again.
Vitamin Basics & Tips
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble nutrient essential for immune function, collagen synthesis, and antioxidant protection. Adults typically require 65–90mg daily, with an upper limit of 2,000mg to avoid digestive discomfort. While citrus fruits and vegetables like bell peppers are natural sources, supplements help those with dietary gaps. However, dosage formats vary: capsules, tablets, or powders. Smaller capsules may aid swallowing but often require multiple doses to meet higher targets (e.g., 1,000mg), impacting cost efficiency.
Absorption peaks at 200–400mg per dose; excess is excreted. Time-release formulas claim prolonged benefits but lack conclusive evidence. Liposomal Vitamin C, encapsulated in fat molecules, may enhance bioavailability. When comparing supplements, check serving sizes and active amounts—labels emphasizing "per unit" pricing can obscure true costs if multiple units are needed. Always cross-reference dosage requirements with your health goals, and consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice, especially for high-dose regimens.
